Poverty Reduction Programme

In 2008, the Eurasia Foundation of Central Asia began work on a Poverty Reduction Programme in Tajikistan.

EFCA developed the structure of the programme and allocated seven small grants among public organizations operating in the poorest regions of Tajikistan. With these funds the EFCA helped create income generating activities through textile ventures, food processing facilities, beekeeping, and bakeries.

The programme was a success. During the six month implementation, 81 people received permanent jobs, 185 people from vulnerable groups were trained in commercial activity and various profit-making skills. In addition, the organizations involved received benefits in the amount of 35 thousand somoni (Tajikistan’s money).

With the support of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Embassy in Astana, the EFCAs poverty reduction programme is being implemented for the institutional development of public organizations which in turn are providing support and employment opportunities for vulnerable groups.
